Know who is going to train you. Born and raised in the Rocky Mountains and traveling in them for over '57' years. We think that we have something to share.Your training is to important to be a guinea pig!

Nestled in the Montana Rocky Mountains bordering the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness & Yellowstone National Park

Our Goal at Bear Paw Outfitters Guide & Packer school is to train our students with field proven guiding,hunting and packing techniques and teach them the proper skills needed to successfully use horses and mules to traverse others and themselves through the mountains in a safe manner. We will provide our Guide and Packer school students with hands-on training in the areas necessary to fulfill your dream as a Professional Outfitter, Hunting Guide, and Trail Guide, or simply to be a better steward of the wilderness. We enroll a limited number of students. Because of this policy we provide Quality training and success, which in turn provides Quality jobs for our students. Our network of Outfitters are always seeking students who have successfully completed our training.

Good enough, isn't good enough when it comes to learning to be a Professional, in any of your endeavors! We know what is needed and desired by ourselves and fellow Outfitters. This is real "Hands on Training".

Let us introduce ourselves. We are Tim and Cindy Bowers 4th generation Montanans. We have been working together for over 50 years. We know what life and this business is about. If we didn't we would not be where we are today. We thank God for watching over our lives and business.

I am Tim Bowers "Bear Paw". I am the Outfitter/Owner a Licensed Montana Outfitter #192 and Yellowstone National Park Stock Outfitter - YELL 105 . I will be conducting most all of the training during your time at our Guide and Packer School. I am a Native Montanan resident - 69 years. Actual Experience counts when it comes to your training.

I DO NOT LEAVE YOUR TRAINING UP TO SOMEONE ELSE. IT IS TOO IMPORTANT and I would think you would as well.

We are a family operated business and not a big corporation. You will not be a number as many schools are! I will physically be there. I will be able to look you in the eye and shake your hand. We know first hand the rewards and challenges involved because we work and live this daily.

There are many types of Guide and Packer Schools advertised out there in cyberland. They can say whatever they like and make many promises. But make sure if they call themselves a 'Professional Guide' or 'Outfitter' that they have a current up to date active license in hand. Have them give you the number. Then check with the Montana Board of Outfitters. Don't settle for less. If they are not licensed ask them why not? and move on! Ask them if they have actually taught the full 'Hands On' training course personally?

Applicants for all guide and packer classes must be able to lift at least 75 pounds chest high.
We have a weight restriction on all applicants of no more than 235 lbs. depending on your height.
